I had fun researching the years in which their careers started. Also the range of years I got to cover, from 50s to 80s. The women are all so lovely that I got a little tired of saying X was so beautiful, Y was so beautiful. :)

It was a lot of fun for me.Avahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17274222598587327676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2988261872663157660.post-88282518735644980952016-10-26T09:34:45.509+05:302016-10-26T09:34:45.509+05:30Anu,

Thank you for finally writing a blog ...Harvey dear. Thank you for finally writing a blog post, even if it is in my comments section. Yes, I was sorely tempted to include Dushman-e-jaan and so many more, but I steeled myself and chose two that really showcase how uninhibited she was in front of the camera. The Boxer song came early in her career, yet she is perfectly at ease swinging away while Dara looks as stiff as he always did. And her style in Zindagi Ittefaq hai is something no one can beat. Every movement of hers is full of grace and she looks just GORGEOUS.

I did want ALL of us to list their favorite songs of these actresses, but what to do, everyone is busy. Thank you for the poster and constructive comments.Avahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17274222598587327676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2988261872663157660.post-44616544457440977862016-10-26T08:41:04.141+05:302016-10-26T08:41:04.141+05:30Lovely list, Ava! So, hats off to you for having achieved that - and so well, too. I love how you record the arc of their careers and then pick one or two of their best-loved roles to showcase. Simply beautiful! My thanks toyour friends for inspiring this post! I admire, how she moved from B-grade films Dara Singh films to her own. She had most of the heroes wanting to act with her and then she threw it all out and got married. She acted wisely and quit when she was on top. One of my favourite actresses. It is always a great pleasure to see her on screen. Bindiya chamkegi is always the first song, that comes to my mind, when I think of Mumtaz. The song from boxer, which you have used was not quite known to me. I was surprised, that you didn’t take dushman-e-jaan Patthar Ke Sanam.
What a short career Leena Chandavarkar had. Nevertheless she was simply wonderful in the films she acted in. I like her in the hardly known song, kaise mitthi ke madho se pala pada from Imaan. She was a bit like Mumtaz, I think.
Jaya Bhaduri’s name on the credits of the film vouched for quality. Hardly a film of hers really disappoints. She had that beautiful naughty smile. I like her baahon me chale aaon from Anamika, where she is trying to be seductive. Sex appeal was not one of her strong points, but she had others, which made her stronger.
Moushumi Chatterjee remained in the girl-next-door image, but she surely had potential for more. She showed her forte for comedy in Angoor. I like her rhim-jhim gire sawan from Manzil.
I never liked Vidya Sinha much except maybe in Rajnigandha and Chhoti Si Baat. I like the title song of Rajnigandha, which you’ve chosen for her. Another song of hers, which I like is samay tu dheere dheere chal from Karm.
I saw Swaroop Sampat for the first time in Naram Garam and just few days after that I saw Nakhuda. I found the former much more entertaining the latter. Her role also had more substance in Naram Garam. A solo song of hers, which I like is mere angina aaye re from Naram Garam.
Thank you, dear Ava for this wonderful post and it was great fun to discuss it with you here. Thanks also to Raja Swaminathan and Archana Sapkota for being the inspiration behind the post.
harveyhttps://harveypam.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2988261872663157660.post-49668049332447538382016-10-26T01:37:21.586+05:302016-10-26T01:37:21.586+05:30What an interesting post, dear Ava. Very unique.
I...What an interesting post, dear Ava. Very unique.
I also like all the heroines mentioned here. They are all very fascinating.
Madhubala, just lit up the screen, when she appeared on it. I had a big crush on her when I was a kid. Her timing for comedy has also remained unsurpassed. My favourite song of hers is beimaan tore nainva neendiya na aaye from Tarana. Other songs of hers, which I like are mostly duets.

Shakila was also so beautiful and had such a flawless complexion. The song of hers, which I like a lot is babuji dheere chalna from Aar-Paar, where she played the vamp. I think, this was the only time, she took up a negative role
Nutan was one of the rare actresses, where beauty and histrionics came together. She was quite an unusual beauty by Indian standards but she excelled in her glamorous as well as unglamourised avatars. I like the song,w hich you have picked up for her and I also like jogi jab se tu aaya more dware from Bandini and unki vo nigaheen from Aakhri Dao, which also one of Archana’s favourites.
You can read about my ten favourite Nutan songs on my blog: https://harveypam.wordpress.com/2011/06/05/happy-birthday-nutan/
For a long, long time Anarkali and Mumtaz Mahal were the only roles of Bina Rai, which I knew. She had a splendid smile. I like zulm-e-ulfat pe hame log sazaa dete hain from Taj Mahal
As you say, Ameeta was cuteness personified. I like the song, which you have chosen for her.
Waheeda Rehman, wow! She looks so great and dignified. More than that, she is such a down-to-earth person. I think she is one of the few actresses, who doesn’t lament about the bygone good-ol-days and how everything was good then and how everything is bad now. She has such an optimistic character. My fav song of hers is surely piya tose naina lage re.
You can read about my ten favourite Waheeda Rehman songs on my blog:
https://harveypam.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/dancing-grace/
What is there not to love about Sadhana. She was a rare combination of cuteness and beauty and dignity. She was also a good actress. I don’t which I like more, mila hai kiska jhumka or o sajana barkha bahaar aayi.
I have listed my ten favourite Sadhana solos on my blog as well:
https://harveypam.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/happy-birthday-sadhana/
Tanuja was cute too but with grit. She was an exceptional actress and hardly got her due. She was, I think, very careless about her career and never worked hard. She talks about it in Nutan’s biography, that her sister would ask her to be a little bit more serious about her career and choose wisely and not impulsively. When I think of Tanuja, the first song, that comes to my mind is, bag me kali khili.harveyhttps://harveypam.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.com
